Founders

Abdoulaye Ag Hahoudou /
Sjoerdje Meijers

Founded between the Sahel and Europe, Aza Laye is built on a shared vision of craftsmanship, heritage, and freedom to define what lies ahead.

Ténéré

A meeting between silversmith Abdoulaye Ag Hahoudou and Sjoerdje Meijers grew into the creation of a timeless brand; with pieces made to endure, and a company built on integrity.

Aza Laye goes beyond the passing, remaining true to its identity. without a framework, instead following what we believe is our path.

Our pieces carry stories across cultures, generations, and borders.

dusty desert valley

“Aza Laye” comes from Azalai; the word used for ancient caravans that once crossed the Sahara, carrying salt, silver, and stories.

We changed Laï to “Laye”, short for Abdoulaye, the Touaregco-founder of the brand.

THE TOUAREG

The Touareg are nomadic people of the Sahara and Sahel, historically moving across regions that today include Mali, Niger, Algeria, Libya, and Burkina Faso. For generations, their lives followed desert routes and trade paths.

Today, that freedom of movement has become increasingly difficult. Borders and conflict have changed what was once a way of life.

SILVER HERITAGE

The Touareg have a long tradition of metalwork. Silver, often obtained through trade or melted coins, was shaped into weapons, tools, and jewelry. The technique used was passed on from father to son.

Jewelry pieces were meant to offer protection during desert journeys. While life has evolved, the craftsmanship remains the same.
